Unburdened Travelers
About Unburdened Travelers

In 2018, I was hiking through Palo Duro Canyon with my best friend. She'd invited me to go on a hiking trip (my first-ever hiking trip!). It was the new year, I was fresh out of college, and single for the first time in 7 years — So, I said yes.

I'll never forget going into the gas station in Canyon, Texas, shortly before driving into Palo Duro. I told the woman behind the counter where I was going, and she said, "there's something sacred about that canyon."
Sure, I thought. That sounds a little woo-woo, but okay.

She wasn't lying. From the moment I drove into the canyon, it felt different. Life felt different. Fast-forward to my best friend and I traversing our way into the canyon, where nature swallowed us and we felt incredibly small, where the cell-signal stopped and the soul-searching began.

As I walked, contemplating everything I'd experienced over the past several months, I asked myself: "How do I feel?"

From outside of myself, it came to me. Unburdened.

That moment started the movement of Unburdened Travelers. At first, I thought it was meant to be a community, then a blog, and eventually, this: Curated boxes that offer a road trip route and ideas for how to slow down, reconnect, and explore. As far as I know, it's meant to be all of the above, and more.
I want to encourage people to put down their phones, talk to the people around them, and soak in the beauty of life.
